Going from Excuses to Energized!

As summer winds down and the days begin to shorten, it’s easy to let excuses pile up like fallen leaves. “I’ll start fresh on Monday,” “I just don’t have the time,” or “I’m too tired” are common refrains that keep us from achieving our health and wellness goals. But with the holidays fast approaching, now is the perfect time to shake off those excuses and revitalize our energy levels. Here’s how you can go from feeling sluggish to fully energized, just in time for the holiday season!

Here are some tips:

  1. Identify your excuses- The first step to overcoming any obstacle is to acknowledge it. Take a moment to reflect on the excuses you’ve been using. Are you blaming your busy schedule, lack of motivation, or the heat of summer? Write them down. Once you see your excuses on paper, they become tangible obstacles you can tackle.
  2. Set small, achievable goals – Instead of aiming for a complete lifestyle overhaul, set small, achievable goals. If you’ve been skipping your morning walk, start with just 10 minutes a day. Gradually increase the duration as it becomes part of your routine. These small victories will build your confidence and keep you motivated.
  3. Refresh your routine – A change in season is the perfect time to refresh your routine. If your workouts have become monotonous, try something new. Explore different types of physical activity like yoga, swimming, or even country dancing! Engaging in activities you enjoy will make it easier to stick with your fitness routine.
  4. Prioritize nutrition – Summer often brings barbecues, ice cream, and indulgent treats. As we transition into fall, refocus on nutrition. Incorporate seasonal produce like pumpkins, apples, and leafy greens into your diet. These nutrient-dense foods will provide sustained energy and help you feel your best.
  5. Stay hydrated – Hydration is key to maintaining energy levels. With cooler weather, it’s easy to forget to drink enough water. Aim for at least 8 glasses a day and consider herbal teas or infused water for a hydrating boost. Proper hydration supports every function in your body and helps prevent fatigue.
  6. Make time for self-care – As a holistic health and wellness coach, I can’t stress enough the importance of self-care. Set aside time each day for activities that rejuvenate your mind and body. This could be meditation, reading, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of tea. Self-care helps reduce stress and keeps your energy levels high.
  7. Get adequate sleep- With the hustle and bustle of summer winding down, establish a consistent sleep routine. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. A good night’s rest is crucial for restoring energy, improving mood, and boosting overall health.
  8. Embrace the outdoors – Take advantage of the cooler weather (okay maybe not yet in AZ) by spending more time outdoors. Nature walks, hiking, or even gardening can be invigorating and help you reconnect with your goals. The fresh air and natural surroundings can provide a much-needed energy boost.
  9. Accountability and support – Share your goals with a friend or join a community group (P.S. I have a group on Facebook) focused on health and wellness. Having someone to share your journey with can provide motivation and accountability. You’re more likely to stay on track when you have support.
  10. Reflect & celebrate – Take time to reflect on your progress and celebrate your successes, no matter how small. Acknowledging your achievements boosts your confidence and keeps you motivated. Remember, every step you take brings you closer to a more energized and vibrant you.

By transitioning from excuses to energized, you’re setting yourself up for a healthier and more joyful holiday season. Let’s embrace the change in seasons as an opportunity to renew our commitment to wellness and live intentionally. The holidays will be here before we know it—let’s greet them with energy and enthusiasm!

Here’s to a vibrant and energized you!
